Here, we meet international GP trainee, Dr Onyeka Ogbodo who reflects on how he has broken through the challenges of moving to a foreign country as he celebrates his first year of medical training.
Currently working at Whiston Hospital in the A&E department, Nigerian-born Onyeka shares his experiences on a range of areas as he approaches the 12-month mark of his training journey.
We employ many international trainees of varying specialities and understand how challenging moving to a new country can be, and this can be a struggle to adjust to no matter what stage of your training process you’re at.
While we’re here to support you throughout, it can also be valuable to hear from a fellow aspiring medical professional who is also adapting to cultural differences and life working in the NHS.
"Coming from Nigeria to the UK, I was expecting a number of changes, but it didn't feel as scary when I started my training. I had a very good team when I started the role which made a big difference."
Hear from Onyeka in full below where he talks about challenges he has faced, offers important advice, and looks ahead to the future.
