Disability History Month 2023

Published: 16th November 2023

We raise awareness this Disability History Month

Every year, we along with other health organisations help support and raise awareness of Disability History Month (UKDHM). UKDHM focuses on the experience of disability amongst children and young people in the past, present, and what is needed for the future.

UKDHM comes from a social model/human rights approach, so that all children and young people with long-term impairment will not experience the social exclusion of stigma, stereotypes, negative attitudes and socially created barriers in the environment and the way things are organised.

Last year, we sat down with Jo Redhead, head of operations at Lead Employer to talk through her experiences both professionally and personally after being diagnosed as partially sighted. Listen below to how Jo dealt with her diagnosis while at the height of her career, the steps she took after and her new life alongside her guide dog, Dolly.

Our MWL Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) team have put together a list of resources, information, and events for UKDHM2023:
